    CarMax in Glencoe, IL just gave me $17,000

    CarMax in Glencoe, IL just gave me $17,000 for my 2017 Toyota Rav4 XLE Hybrid with 52,000 miles! Very smooth experience from start to finish. I filled out a form online, was upfront about the car’s condition, which was good, and even mentioned a small accident and a bigger one (not my fault). One tire was low, but the interior was clean with no rips or tears (had seat covers on most of the time). The quote came back and was valid for 7 days. I know I could get more selling privately, but it comes with a lot of risk. My car still had a small loan, so that was deducted from the final offer. I drove in, gave them the quote, handed over the keys, and they checked it out in about 10 minutes. The guy said, “The car is exactly how you described it, we will honor the quote.” HONEST, FRIENDLY, and EASY. Got my $17k check within the hour. I’ll never trade in a car again. The Glencoe team was professional and friendly. I might go back to buy a car there soon.

    If you're considering selling your car to Carmax

    If you're considering selling your car to Carmax, reconsider many times. This company is unprofessional, uncaring, and indifferent to customers. Last June 24, 2024, I sold my 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid at their Victorville branch. Up to now, this dreadful company hasn't paid off my bank (Rize) for no clear reason. I spoke with 4 staff members at their Victorville office to find out what’s happening. I was told Carmax had sent the payment on June 29. This, however, was not true. Rize has been stressfully and annoyingly calling me about the payment. They even sent me demand letters. Because of Carmax's long delay in fulfilling its duties, Rize reported me to the credit bureau as a late payer. As a result, my reputation has been damaged due to Carmax's errors. My last credit score was 834. I’m now seeking legal advice.

    The sales folk were quite decent

    The sales folk were quite decent while I ordered a car and sent it to Independence Missouri. But then it went downhill. The time it was supposed to be ready came and went, so I called to check. They said it might take another two or three weeks to get the title rewritten from the DMV. The car had sat on the lot at carmax in Tennessee for 41 days. Why wasn't it ready now? I checked online and had a car shipped to me from another state. Unlike carmax, they call me and keep me updated on everything.

    They don’t have it together.

    They don’t have it together. I ordered a car from elsewhere. When I saw it, it had a big scratch not in the pics. They said all set but then I had to insure it before I could have it. Never had to do this before. They wanted more paperwork after pre-approving me. I left!!

    CarMax Auto Finance makes it hard to get your statements. The email doesn't have them and when you log in, you can't find them. I had to contact support which is silly. They just want to sell cars, not help you afterwards.

    On October 9, 2024, we visited to meet

    On October 9, 2024, we visited to meet a specific salesman, but we were assigned a very unskilled person. He kept interrupting to ask questions to his coworkers, which made the whole process take way too long. It felt like he was on his first sale. When we took the car, the salesman provided No details about how the 2021 hybrid Hyundai Sonata worked. After getting home, I found problems with the stereo and couldn't connect to the satellite radio. Now, eight days later, while taking the car in for these issues, it's saying it needs general servicing, even though the salesman claimed CARMAX performs a 125 point service check before selling a vehicle. I had to take a day off to fix the service items that were supposedly checked. The salesman seemed more focused on taking a picture of the sale rather than assisting me. It's disappointing that Carmax provided incomplete paperwork and even needed to FedEx me documents that I had to sign. I want to cancel my old extended warranty, but the lender says they still haven't received payment from Carmax after eight days, so I have to wait until that is settled before I can cancel. I'm quite unhappy and considering returning the car after just being told I need to take it to a Hyundai dealer for servicing on my problems.
